This photograph was taken after the funeral of Edith Letitia King (Moody) in December 1947 at a lunch at the Victoria Station Hotel in Nottingham. Nellie
Walker (King) actions are the equivalent of the modern day "Yes!!!" hence the disapproval shown by some members of the family - but not all ! |

Dorothy King (Latimore) (1887-1986) identified this photo as being “Uncle Alec”, William King’s brother, with his wife and three children. We now know that, although he married, Alec King never had any children.
After a great deal of thought, the only candidate who really fits all the requirements is William King himself. Assuming that the photo was taken 6 years earlier in 1889 then the photo shows William King (1851-1918) age about 38: his wife Edith Letitia King (Moody) (1864-1947) age 25: oldest daughter Nellie Agnes Walker (King) (1884-1957) age 5 (“Auntie Nellie”) standing in front of her mother on the right: William Harold King (1886-1972) age 3 (“Uncle Harold”) seated on the left in front of his father: and, being held in her mother’s arms (almost invisible) is Ethel Jeanette West (King) (1888-1942) age 1 (“Auntie Nettie”).
The photo was probably taken in Nottingham whilst William was setting up a Boot and Shoe Shop in Ilkeston.
